Good Neighbor Organics is a non-profit company associated with the Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State. What makes Good Neighbor Organics special, when compared to other local growers, is our story and who is in our greenhouses growing our crops.
Located on the grounds of the Staten Island Center, the work-staff for our greenhouse is comprised of individuals with differing disabilities, all of whom have a passion for horticulture. These individuals assist with preparing soil trays, planting seeds, and ensuring that the plants stay watered.
We grow and distribute locally grown organic micro-greens, including: sunflower sprouts, wheatgrass, and pea shoot sprouts. This is an excellent opportunity for those with disabilities to learn useful life skills, and also gives them the opportunity to feel the sense of accomplishment one gets from watching something blossom and grow from one small seed. This goes hand in hand with CP of NYS’s mission of promoting lifelong opportunities for independence, inclusion, and an enhanced quality of life. Individuals with cerebral palsy and other significant disabilities may not get the same opportunities, and Good Neighbor Organics gives them exactly that, opportunities.
